Archana Kumar began her love affair with Indian Classical dance nearly two decades ago in India. Since then she has performed in China, India, Japan, United States, United Arab Emirates and Canada. Archana practices an ancient form of Indian classical dance called Kathak known for its lyrical dance form and unparalleled, complexity of footwork. When she dances she “evokes exotic motions and moods of passion, including nods to the Kama Sutra” -Fame or Famine Newsletter.
Innovation
An innovator, Archana has found a unique way to “Seemlessly integrate intricate [Indian]footwork with the full-body athleticism of Western contemporary dance” –Arts LAUNCH. As a contemporary dancer Archana has worked with KT Neihoff (visiting professor at the School for New Dance Development – Amsterdam) to create works of improvisation. She has presented her choreographies in Seattle, Tokyo, Bangalore, and Shanghai. Because of her background in Indian classical dance, Archana’s modern dance form is improvisational, rhythmically stunning and rich in cultural pluralism. |
